IVF for Military Families Act
Summary
The IVF for Military Families Act aims to expand healthcare benefits for active-duty military personnel and their dependents by requiring the TRICARE program to cover comprehensive fertility-related care. Currently, TRICARE only covers such services in very limited cases, typically requiring proof that infertility is directly related to a service-connected injury or illness. This bill would remove that restriction, allowing families to access treatments like in vitro fertilization (IVF) regardless of the cause of their infertility.
If enacted, the legislation would provide coverage for a wide range of services, including infertility diagnosis, egg and sperm retrieval, artificial insemination, and the preservation of reproductive materials. Specifically, the bill proposes to cover up to three completed egg retrievals and unlimited embryo transfers. It also directs the Department of Defense to establish a coordination program to help military families navigate these medical services and provide specialized training to healthcare providers regarding the unique needs of the military community.
