Protecting Military Installations and Ranges Act of 2025
Summary
The Protecting Military Installations and Ranges Act of 2025 would establish new restrictions on foreign property purchases near sensitive U.S. military locations. If enacted, the bill would require the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) to review any purchase, lease, or concession of real estate by foreign persons connected to Russia, China, Iran, or North Korea if the property is located within 100 miles of a military installation or within 50 miles of military training routes, special use airspace, controlled firing areas, or military operations areas.
The bill would also require the Department of Defense and Department of Transportation to wait for CFIUS to complete its review before issuing final determinations on certain projects, such as energy projects, that involve transactions under CFIUS review. The practical effect would be to add an additional layer of scrutiny and potential delays to foreign real estate transactions in areas near military facilities, with the goal of protecting national security interests. Currently, the bill has been introduced in the House and referred to committee for consideration.
