Protecting Military Installations and Ranges Act of 2025
Summary
This bill would establish new restrictions on foreign real estate purchases near sensitive U.S. military locations. Specifically, it would require the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) to review any purchase, lease, or concession of property by foreign persons connected to Russia, China, Iran, or North Korea if that property is located within 100 miles of a military installation or within 50 miles of military training routes, special use airspace, controlled firing areas, or military operations areas.
The bill would also coordinate federal agency actions by preventing the Department of Defense and Department of Transportation from issuing final decisions on certain energy projects and other specified transactions until CFIUS completes its review. This aims to ensure that national security concerns are evaluated before major projects proceed in areas near military facilities. For everyday citizens, this would primarily affect foreign investors seeking to purchase property in these restricted zones, potentially limiting certain real estate transactions in areas surrounding military bases and training areas.
