Background

Born Katie Elizabeth Boyd on February 2, 1982, she attended the University of Alabama and later graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law. Before entering public office, she worked as an attorney at the law firms Johnston Barton Proctor & Rose LLP and Butler Snow LLP, where she started a government affairs branch. She also served as the president and CEO of the Business Council of Alabama from 2019 to 2021, becoming the first woman to lead the organization.

Political career

Before her election to the Senate, Katie Boyd Britt served as the press secretary and later the chief of staff for U.S. Senator Richard Shelby, and she also led the Business Council of Alabama as its president and CEO from 2019 to 2021. A member of the Republican Party, she was first sworn in as the junior United States senator from Alabama in 2023. She is the first woman to be elected to the U.S. Senate from Alabama and the youngest Republican woman to be elected to the Senate.
