TRANS MICE Act

H.R. 4512, the TRANS MICE Act, would ban the use of federal funds for research that alters animals' biological sex characteristics through drugs, hormones, surgeries, or other interventions. The bill would apply to non-human vertebrate animals and would prevent direct or indirect federal funding of such research. Sponsors argue the legislation would prevent what they characterize as wasteful use of taxpayer dollars, citing claims that federal funding has supported such research in the past. The bill is currently in the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology and has not yet been voted on by the full chamber.
