Veteran Families Health Services Act of 2023

This bill would expand and permanently authorize fertility treatments and family-building services for veterans and active-duty servicemembers through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Department of Defense (DoD). It specifically allows for the use of assisted reproductive technologies like in vitro fertilization (IVF) and provides adoption assistance for those unable to conceive due to service-related injuries or other factors.

The legislation also permits servicemembers to cryopreserve (freeze) their eggs or sperm prior to deployment to a combat zone or after sustaining an injury. By removing current restrictions on marital status and the use of donated genetic material, the bill aims to ensure that more veteran families, including those with same-sex partners or those who are unmarried, have access to reproductive healthcare and support.
