Albuquerque Indian School Act of 2025

H.R. 6162 would place approximately 9.98 acres of land from the former Albuquerque Indian School campus into federal trust for the benefit of the 19 Pueblos of New Mexico. The land is currently the site of the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, a museum and cultural institution owned and operated by the Pueblos. If enacted, the bill would support the Pueblos' efforts to expand the Cultural Center's operations, including scaling Native-owned businesses, creating jobs, and expanding business services for local and Native-owned enterprises. This legislation builds on decades of bipartisan efforts to consolidate the former school property under Pueblo control, with an earlier transfer of four land parcels completed in 2015. The bill is currently under consideration in the House Subcommittee on Indian and Insular Affairs, with hearings held in March 2026, and has not yet been voted on by the full House.
