VA CPE Modernization Act

The VA CPE Modernization Act would modify how the Department of Veterans Affairs reimburses health care professionals for continuing education costs. Currently, only board-certified physicians and dentists qualify for reimbursement. If enacted, this bill would expand eligibility to include other full-time health care professionals such as registered nurses and would remove the board certification requirement, allowing more VA employees to access education funding.

The bill would also increase the reimbursement amounts available to physicians and dentists. The VA would have flexibility to adjust reimbursement levels, but any adjustments would need to maintain a minimum of $2,000 per year for each eligible position. This change could help the VA attract and retain health care workers by supporting their professional development and keeping their skills current. The bill is currently under consideration in the House Subcommittee on Health and has not yet been voted on by the full chamber.
