Alexandra’s Law Act of 2025
Summary
Alexandra's Law Act of 2025 would amend the Controlled Substances Act to require courts to provide an advisory statement to individuals convicted of drug-related offenses involving fentanyl or its analogues that result in death. The statement would warn convicted individuals about the extreme dangers of illicit drugs, particularly those mixed with fentanyl, and inform them that selling or administering drugs without authorization that causes someone's death could result in homicide charges.
The bill would also allow previous convictions for drug offenses involving fentanyl to be used as evidence in subsequent homicide cases to demonstrate that a defendant knew or should have known the substance contained fentanyl. Additionally, sworn statements about this advisory from state and federal courts would be admissible as evidence across different court jurisdictions. The bill has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee and the Committee on Energy and Commerce but has not yet advanced beyond introduction.
