Safe Passage to the World Cup Act
Summary
The Safe Passage to the World Cup Act would prohibit the Department of Homeland Security and Department of Justice from using federal funds for civil immigration enforcement activities on public transit and at transit hubs in metropolitan areas hosting 2026 FIFA World Cup matches or fan festivals. The restrictions would apply during the tournament period from June 11 through July 19, 2026.
The bill includes exceptions for exigent circumstances, such as imminent threats to life, terrorism, national security risks, immediate pursuit of dangerous individuals, or imminent destruction of evidence. The legislation aims to ensure that World Cup attendees, including international visitors and local residents, can freely use public transportation without fear of immigration enforcement actions during the globally significant sporting event.
This bill has been introduced but has not yet received committee action. Most introduced bills do not advance further. It was referred to the House Committee on the Judiciary on March 18, 2026.
