World War II Women's Memorial Location Act
Summary
This bill would allow a memorial honoring women who worked on the home front during World War II to be built on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The bill specifically designates where on the National Mall the memorial can be placed, which is necessary because previous legislation in 2023 authorized the memorial but did not specify its location. The memorial would honor the approximately 18 million American women, known as "Rosies" or "Rosie the Riveters," who worked as pilots, engineers, mechanics, code breakers, factory workers, and in other roles to support the war effort by building planes, tanks, munitions, and other military equipment.
The memorial would be built entirely with private funds and would be located in a prominent position on the National Mall alongside other war memorials. This bill is bipartisan and has already passed the House of Representatives. It is currently in the Senate awaiting further action. If enacted, the bill would ensure that the contributions of these women during World War II are recognized in the nation's capital.
