Save Our Future Act

The Save Our Future Act proposes a new fee on fossil fuels—such as coal, oil, and natural gas—as well as on industrial greenhouse gas emissions to encourage a transition toward cleaner energy. To offset potential increases in energy costs, the bill would provide annual tax rebates of $800 for individuals and $1,600 for joint filers, plus $300 per dependent, targeted at low- and middle-income households. Additionally, the legislation directs funding toward job training for displaced coal workers, energy assistance for rural areas, and investments in "environmental justice communities" that are disproportionately affected by pollution.
