HBOT Access Act of 2021

The HBOT Access Act of 2021 would require the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to provide hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) to veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or traumatic brain injuries (TBI). To qualify for this treatment, a veteran must be at high risk of suicide or self-harm and have already tried at least two other evidence-based treatment options without success.

If passed, this bill would give veterans access to pressurized oxygen treatments through the Veterans Community Care Program, offering a non-drug alternative for those who have exhausted traditional medical therapies. Additionally, the bill mandates that the VA study the outcomes of these treatments to better understand how effective hyperbaric therapy is for long-term recovery from brain injuries and mental health conditions.
