ARTIST Act
Summary
The ARTIST Act, which passed the Senate, is now being considered by the House of Representatives. This bill would prevent individual states from imposing their own bans on marine mammal products that are legally produced by Alaska Natives as traditional handicrafts and clothing. Specifically, states would be prohibited from banning the importation, sale, transfer, trade, barter, or possession of marine mammal ivory, bone, or baleen when these items are created by Alaska Natives as authentic cultural articles.
