Dan Sullivan is a Republican Senator from Alaska who chairs the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness and Management Support. This subcommittee holds significant power over military readiness across the Department of Defense, including training, logistics, maintenance, military construction, and defense energy programs. As chair, Sullivan controls which readiness issues receive committee attention and can shape defense policy priorities affecting the armed forces.

Sullivan brings substantial expertise to this role through his background in military and national security affairs. He served 30 years in the United States Marine Corps, retiring in 2024 as a Colonel in the Marine Corps Reserve, with deployments to the Middle East, Afghanistan, and the Taiwan Strait. Before his Senate election in 2014, he worked in the George W. Bush administration as Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs and served as Alaska's Attorney General and Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Natural Resources. He earned degrees in economics from Harvard University and joint degrees in law and foreign service from Georgetown University.
