Transportation and Infrastructure

The Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee is a specialized division of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works that focuses on surface transportation infrastructure policy. As a subcommittee, it conducts initial hearings and reviews legislation within its narrower jurisdiction before matters proceed to the full committee, which alone can report bills to the Senate floor. The subcommittee's responsibilities include federal highway programs, construction and maintenance of highways, public works, bridges, dams, and federal buildings and grounds. It also oversees programs administered by the Federal Highway Administration and the General Services Administration.

Chaired by Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) with Ranking Member Angela D. Alsobrooks (D-MD), the 17-member subcommittee has been actively engaged in recent legislative work. The full Environment and Public Works Committee has held multiple hearings in 2025 on surface transportation reauthorization, examining implementation of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and gathering stakeholder perspectives as Congress prepares to reauthorize surface transportation programs before current provisions expire in September 2026. These hearings represent the groundwork that will inform the subcommittee's review of future transportation legislation.
