About
John Boozman is a Republican U.S. Senator from Arkansas and a former optometrist who has served as the dean of his state's congressional delegation since 2013.
Background
John Boozman was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, and raised in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He attended the University of Arkansas, where he played football for the Arkansas Razorbacks, before graduating from the Southern College of Optometry in 1977. Before entering federal politics, he co-founded a private eye clinic in Rogers, Arkansas, and served two terms on the Rogers Public School Board.
Political career
Before entering federal office, John Boozman served two terms on the Rogers Public School Board in Arkansas. A member of the Republican Party, he was first sworn into the U.S. House of Representatives in 2001 after winning a special election to represent Arkansas's 3rd congressional district. He served in the House until 2011, when he took office in the United States Senate after defeating a Democratic incumbent in the 2010 election.
