Wicker, Roger F.

Roger Wicker is a Republican senator from Mississippi who chairs the Senate Armed Services Committee for the 119th Congress. As chair, he leads a 27-member committee and seven subcommittees responsible for one of Congress's most important constitutional duties: providing for the common defense. The committee sets the annual National Defense Authorization Act, which establishes defense policy and military spending priorities. This position gives Wicker significant power to shape military strategy, weapons development, and national security policy.

Wicker brings substantial military and legislative experience to the role. He served on active duty in the U.S. Air Force from 1976 to 1980 and continued in the Air Force Reserve until retiring as a lieutenant colonel in 2004.
