Bottles and Breastfeeding Equipment Screening Enhancement Act
Summary
This bill would require the Transportation Security Administration to create or update guidance for airport security screening procedures that handle breast milk, baby formula, purified water for infants, juice, and related cooling accessories like ice packs and gel packs. The guidance would aim to minimize contamination risks by ensuring that TSA staff follow proper hygienic standards when these items are re-screened or undergo additional screening at airport checkpoints.
The bill also directs the Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General to audit whether TSA is complying with these new hygiene requirements and to report findings back to Congress. If enacted, this would help protect infants and young children from potential health risks during air travel by establishing clearer safety protocols for handling food and feeding equipment at security checkpoints.
