Stand Strong Falls Prevention Act
Summary
The Stand Strong Falls Prevention Act would amend the Older Americans Act to address falls among older Americans. If enacted, the bill would create an Advisory Committee on Falls Prevention within the Department of Health and Human Services to develop a comprehensive National Falls Prevention Plan. This committee would include representatives from federal and state agencies, healthcare providers, researchers, caregivers, housing experts, and disability service providers. The committee would assess current fall-prevention efforts and recommend new policies and programs to reduce falls.
The bill would also authorize a pilot program to test whether Medicare could cover or reimburse home modifications such as grab bars and handrails that help prevent falls. Additionally, the legislation would require federal agencies to share falls prevention data and commission studies on common household accidents and cost-effective prevention methods. The bill is currently under consideration by the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, with hearings held in March 2026.
