Youth Prevention and Recovery Reauthorization Act of 2025
Summary
This bill would amend the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act to reauthorize and modify the Youth Prevention and Recovery Initiative, a federal program that helps address substance use disorders in young people. The bill would expand eligibility for grant programs by allowing consortiums of local educational agencies and Tribal organizations to apply for funding, and would extend the program's authorization through fiscal year 2028. It would also increase funding incrementally from $10 million in fiscal year 2026 to $15 million in fiscal year 2030.
The Youth Prevention and Recovery Initiative provides grants to hospitals, local governments, schools, and other eligible organizations to increase access to opioid addiction treatment for adolescents and young adults. The program also improves youth and family awareness of the risks associated with fentanyl and trains healthcare providers and school personnel on best practices for supporting children and adolescents with opioid use disorder. The bill would add a requirement that grant recipients develop a sustainability plan for their activities after the grant program ends, ensuring long-term community benefits.
