Bipartisan Health Care Act
Summary
S. 891, the Bipartisan Health Care Act, would extend and modernize several key federal health programs set to expire. The bill would continue telehealth flexibilities through December 2026, allowing expanded geographic eligibility, audio-only services, and a broader range of practitioners to provide remote care. It would also reauthorize and strengthen programs addressing substance use disorders, including the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act, with provisions for treatment access, recovery support, and workforce development.
The bill covers a wide range of health care areas including Medicaid modernization, public health emergency preparedness, maternal and child health, dental care, organ transplantation, and programs supporting individuals with disabilities. It would extend funding and authorization for various health initiatives that were not included in recent government funding legislation. The bill is currently under consideration by the Senate Finance Committee and would require passage by both chambers and presidential signature to become law.
