GAAME Act of 2026
Summary
The GAAME Act of 2026 proposes to expand how schools can use federal Title I funding, which currently supports educational needs of students from low-income families. Under this bill, schools would be permitted to direct these funds toward arts and music education programs, provided they are taught by certified educators and align with state academic standards.
The bill would create two pathways for schools to implement arts and music programs. Schools operating school-wide programs could include descriptions of sequential, standards-based arts and music education in their comprehensive plans. Schools operating targeted assistance programs could use Title I funds specifically for arts and music initiatives that address academic needs of students, including funding for certified teachers, professional development, instruments, supplies, and related expenses.
If enacted, this bill would give schools greater flexibility in using existing federal education funding to provide arts and music instruction to students in low-income communities, potentially expanding access to these educational programs that might otherwise be limited due to budget constraints.
