DRIVE Act of 2025
Summary
The DRIVE Act of 2025 would increase the mileage reimbursement rate that veterans receive when traveling to Department of Veterans Affairs facilities for vocational rehabilitation, counseling, medical examinations, treatment, or care. Under this bill, the reimbursement rate would match or exceed the mileage rate that the federal government reimburses to its own employees who use personal vehicles for official travel.
The bill also includes a requirement that the VA process and pay mileage reimbursement claims within 90 days of receiving a properly submitted request. Currently, veterans may experience longer delays in receiving these reimbursements. If enacted, these changes would reduce out-of-pocket costs for veterans accessing VA services and provide more timely payment for their travel expenses.
The bill is currently under consideration by the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs, which held hearings on the proposal in May 2025. It has not yet been voted on by the full Senate.
