Deb Fischer is a Republican U.S. Senator from Nebraska who has served since 2013 and is the first woman to be reelected to the Senate from her state.

Background

Deb Fischer was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, and attended the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education. Before entering public office, she and her husband raised their three sons while operating a family cattle ranch near Valentine, Nebraska. Her early career also included serving on the Valentine Rural High School Board of Education for fourteen years.

Political career

Deb Fischer began her public service on the Valentine Rural High School Board of Education from 1990 to 2004 before serving in the Nebraska Legislature from 2005 to 2013. A member of the Republican Party, she was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2012 and has held her seat since 2013. She is the third woman to represent Nebraska in the Senate and the first to be reelected, winning subsequent terms in 2018 and 2024.
