Hagerty, Bill

Bill Hagerty represents Tennessee as a Republican member of the House. Before entering Congress, he established a career in the private sector, working for the Boston Consulting Group and later co-founding the private equity firm Hagerty Peterson & Company. His public service includes serving as the commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development and as the U.S. Ambassador to Japan from 2017 to 2019. He also played a significant role in bringing a Major League Soccer franchise to Nashville.

In the House, Hagerty is involved in a wide range of committee work focusing on financial oversight and foreign affairs. He serves on the Committee on Appropriations, the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, and the Committee on Foreign Relations. He holds leadership roles as Chair of the Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government, the Subcommittee on National Security and International Trade and Finance, and the Subcommittee on State Department and USAID Management.

Hagerty has sponsored several legislative initiatives, including the Freedom to Build Act and the Preventing Foreign Interference in American Elections Act. His policy focus often centers on economic protection, infrastructure, and national security. Throughout his tenure, he has utilized his experience in international trade and finance to influence legislation regarding digital assets and global economic policy.
