Kelly, Mark

Mark Kelly represents Arizona as a member of the Democratic Party. Before entering public service, he had a distinguished career as a naval aviator and NASA astronaut. During the Gulf War, he flew 39 combat missions, and he later commanded the final mission of the Space Shuttle Endeavour. He transitioned into advocacy and politics following the 2011 assassination attempt on his wife, former Representative Gabby Giffords, co-founding an organization dedicated to gun safety and background checks.

In Congress, Kelly holds several influential committee assignments, including positions on the Committee on Armed Services and the Select Committee on Intelligence. He serves as a Ranking Member for subcommittees focused on Airland and Clean Air, Climate, and Nuclear Innovation. His work frequently bridges his technical background in aviation and science with policy areas such as transportation, infrastructure, and national security.

Kelly has sponsored over 100 legislative items, including the PEACE Act and the Nicholas Douglas Quets Border Travel Safety Act.
