Mike Rounds is a Republican politician who has represented South Dakota in the United States Senate since 2015. Born in Huron and raised in Pierre, he graduated from South Dakota State University with a degree in political science before beginning a career in the private sector as a partner in an insurance and real estate firm. His political career began in the South Dakota State Senate, where he served five terms and rose to the position of Majority Leader. He later served two terms as the 31st Governor of South Dakota from 2003 to 2011, focusing on economic development and fiscal responsibility.
