McIver, LaMonica

LaMonica McIver represents New Jersey's 10th Congressional District, which includes parts of Essex, Hudson, and Union counties. She first entered Congress in September 2024 following a special election to fill the seat of the late Representative Donald M. Payne Jr. A native of Newark, she previously served on the Newark Municipal Council starting in 2018, where she made history as the youngest woman elected to the body and eventually served as its president. Her professional background is rooted in education and public affairs, having worked as a personnel director for Montclair Public Schools and a public affairs manager for PSE&G.

In the House, McIver is an active member of the Committee on Homeland Security and the Committee on Small Business. She holds ranking member positions on the Subcommittee on Transportation and Maritime Security and the Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax, and Capital Access. Her legislative priorities include supporting working women, improving small business engagement, and enhancing transportation infrastructure. She has sponsored legislation to recognize the needs of working women and to rename Newark Penn Station in honor of her predecessor, Donald M. Payne Jr.
