About

April McClain Delaney is a Democrat representing Maryland's 6th Congressional District, which encompasses parts of Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Allegany, and Garrett Counties. She was elected in 2024 and sworn in on January 3, 2025. Born in Buhl, Idaho, Delaney earned her bachelor's degree from Northwestern University and her law degree from Georgetown University. Before entering Congress, she worked as a media lawyer for much of her career and served as deputy assistant secretary for communications at the Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications and Information Administration under President Biden, as well as director of the Washington, D.C. division of Common Sense Media, a nonprofit focused on children's online safety and media literacy.

In the House, Delaney serves on the Committee on Agriculture and the Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. Within the Agriculture Committee, she is a member of the Commodity Markets, Digital Assets, and Rural Development Subcommittee and the Conservation, Research, and Biotechnology Subcommittee. Her legislative priorities reflect her background in technology and rural policy, with recent bills addressing rural broadband affordability, agricultural conservation, and rural utilities services. She is dedicated to bridging the digital divide and holding technology companies accountable while championing innovation and opportunity.

Delaney is a member of the New Democrat Coalition and the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus. She is married to John Delaney, a former U.S. Representative from the same district who served from 2013 to 2019.
