About
John Rose is serving his fourth term representing Tennessee's 6th Congressional District in the House. Born February 23, 1965, he is a lifelong Tennessean raised in Cookeville and an eighth-generation family farmer. Before entering Congress in 2019, Rose served as Tennessee's agriculture commissioner from 2002 to 2003 and founded Boson Software, an IT training company. He holds degrees in agribusiness economics from Tennessee Tech, agricultural economics from Purdue University, and a law degree from Vanderbilt University.
Rose serves on two major House committees: Agriculture and Financial Services. On the Agriculture Committee, he participates in subcommittees on Commodity Markets and Digital Assets, General Farm Commodities and Risk Management, and Conservation and Biotechnology. On Financial Services, he serves on subcommittees covering Housing and Insurance, Financial Institutions, and Digital Assets and Financial Technology, and serves as Vice Chairman of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee. His committee work reflects his background in farming and business, with a focus on regulatory relief for community banks and agricultural policy.
Rose has sponsored numerous bills addressing rural development, housing supply, and financial services. His legislative priorities include the Housing Supply Expansion Act of 2025 and the Somaliland Economic Access and Opportunity Act. Beyond Congress, he has chaired the Tennessee State Fair Association since 2010 and established a scholarship for agricultural students at Tennessee Tech. In March 2025, he announced his candidacy for Governor of Tennessee in the 2026 election.
