Prevent Interruptions in Physical Therapy Act of 2025
Summary
The Prevent Interruptions in Physical Therapy Act of 2025 would modify how Medicare pays for physical therapy services. Currently, when one physical therapist arranges for another physical therapist to temporarily provide care to their patients, Medicare will only reimburse these services if they occur in medically underserved, rural, or health professional shortage areas. This bill would remove that geographic restriction.
If enacted, the bill would allow physical therapists to receive Medicare payment for patient care provided through temporary arrangements anywhere in the country, regardless of whether the area is underserved or has a shortage of health professionals. The practical effect would be to give physical therapists more flexibility in how they arrange temporary coverage for their patients, potentially reducing service interruptions for Medicare beneficiaries in all regions. The bill is currently in committee and has not yet been voted on by the full House.
