Restoring Faith in Elections Act

The Restoring Faith in Elections Act would establish new rules for how federal elections are conducted. The bill would require mail-in ballots to arrive by the time polls close on election day, make it illegal to handle another person's completed ballot (known as ballot harvesting) with limited exceptions, and require states to count all eligible ballots within 24 hours after an election. Violators of the ballot handling provisions would face criminal penalties including fines and up to one year in prison.

The bill would also create new voter registration and maintenance requirements. It would establish automatic voter registration programs with federal grants to states, require uniform standards for signature verification and other voting methods across all voting types, and create a National Deconfliction Voting Database to track voter registration records. States would be required to certify that they have removed ineligible voters from their official voter rolls before each federal election.

Currently, this bill has been introduced in the House and referred to committee for consideration. It has not yet been voted on by the full chamber.
