Advancing GETs Act of 2025
Summary
The Advancing GETs Act of 2025 would direct the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to create a shared savings incentive program for grid-enhancing technologies. These technologies are hardware or software designed to increase the capacity, efficiency, reliability, resilience, or safety of electricity transmission systems. Under the bill, developers who invest in qualifying grid-enhancing technologies would receive a portion of the cost savings their investments generate over a three-year period, provided the expected savings are at least four times the cost of the investment.
The bill aims to encourage private investment in technologies that could improve the nation's electrical grid infrastructure. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission would have 18 months after enactment to establish the rules governing how savings are calculated and how much of those savings would be returned to developers. The incentive would only apply to new grid-enhancing technology installations, not to systems already in place before the law takes effect.
This bill is currently in the early stages of the legislative process and has been referred to committee for consideration. It has not yet been voted on by the full House.
