Weather Act Reauthorization Act of 2025
Summary
The Weather Act Reauthorization Act of 2025 would update and strengthen the federal government's weather forecasting and research capabilities. The bill would reauthorize funding for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to modernize weather prediction technologies, including next-generation radar and satellite systems, artificial intelligence applications, and improved computational resources. It would also establish new programs for forecasting extreme weather events like hurricanes, tornadoes, atmospheric rivers, and heat waves, as well as drought and water management initiatives.
Beyond weather forecasting, the bill would address multiple environmental and public safety concerns. It would expand programs to monitor harmful algal blooms, strengthen landslide hazard reduction efforts, and establish a National Integrated Heat Health Information System. The legislation would also encourage public-private partnerships for weather data provision and support international collaboration, particularly in Arctic research. Additionally, the bill would require NOAA to improve communication systems for public weather alerts and support agricultural and water management through enhanced forecasting capabilities.
