Combating Cartels on Social Media Act of 2025

The Combating Cartels on Social Media Act of 2025 would direct the Departments of Homeland Security, Justice, and State to work together to address how transnational criminal organizations use social media platforms and messaging services to recruit individuals in the United States. The bill specifically targets recruitment efforts by these organizations aimed at involving people in unlawful activities within the U.S., Mexico, or near U.S. international borders.

If enacted, this legislation would require these federal agencies to jointly assess the scope of the problem and develop and implement a coordinated strategy to combat such recruitment. The practical effect would be to formalize interagency efforts to monitor and counter criminal recruitment on digital platforms.
