SEED Act of 2025
Summary
H.R. 5334, the Supporting Early-Childhood Educators' Deductions (SEED) Act of 2025, would amend the Internal Revenue Code to extend educator expense deductions to early childhood educators. Currently, K-12 teachers can deduct certain out-of-pocket expenses from their federal taxes, but early childhood educators working in preschools and similar settings do not have access to this same deduction. This bill would create parity by allowing early childhood educators to claim the same tax deduction available to other teachers.
The bill has passed out of the House Ways and Means Committee with unanimous support (43-0 vote) and is now eligible for a full House floor vote. If enacted, the legislation would provide modest tax relief to early childhood educators who often spend their own money on classroom supplies, materials, and professional development. This change would recognize early childhood educators as professionals deserving the same tax treatment as K-12 teachers, potentially helping offset some of the financial burdens these educators face in their work.
