Keep SNAP Funded Act of 2025
Summary
The Keep SNAP Funded Act of 2025 would authorize emergency appropriations to the Department of Agriculture to maintain Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits without interruption during any period when Congress has not enacted full-year or continuing appropriations for fiscal year 2026. SNAP is the federal food assistance program that helps low-income individuals and families purchase food.
If enacted, this bill would also provide retroactive payments to cover any SNAP benefits that were missed between September 30, 2025, and when the bill becomes law. The emergency funding would remain available only until Congress passes regular budget legislation for the Department of Agriculture, at which point this temporary measure would no longer be needed.
The practical effect would be to prevent gaps in food assistance for millions of SNAP recipients if normal congressional appropriations processes are delayed or stalled. Currently, the bill has been introduced in the Senate and referred to committee for consideration, but has not yet been voted on by the full chamber.
