Protect the West Act of 2025

S. 670, the Protect the West Act of 2025, would establish a $60 billion Outdoor and Watershed Restoration Fund to address environmental challenges in the western United States. The bill would create two funding mechanisms: a $20 billion grant program and a $40 billion Restoration and Resilience Partnership Program, with at least half of the partnership funding directed to federal lands.

The bill would support a range of restoration and resilience projects, including forest and watershed restoration, invasive species removal, wildfire risk reduction, drought resilience improvements, and efforts to expand equitable outdoor access. The legislation would also establish a Restoration Fund Advisory Council to oversee the initiative. Currently, the bill is under consideration by the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry and has not yet been voted on by the full Senate.
