Blunt Rochester, Lisa

Lisa Blunt Rochester is the first woman and first African American to represent Delaware in both the U.S. House and Senate. After serving as Delaware's at-large representative from 2017 to 2025, she transitioned to the Senate. Her professional background is rooted in public service, having served as Delaware's Secretary of Labor and Personnel Director, as well as the CEO of the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League. Her early career was shaped by her work for Tom Carper in both his congressional and gubernatorial offices.

In the Senate, she holds several influential committee assignments, including Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs; Commerce, Science, and Transportation; and Environment and Public Works. She serves as a Ranking Member on subcommittees related to the Coast Guard and Education. Her policy focus centers on economic opportunity, infrastructure, and public health, reflecting her extensive experience in state-level administration and labor issues.

Blunt Rochester has sponsored significant legislation such as the National Nursing Workforce Center Act and the Immersive Technology for the American Workforce Act. She is also a key advocate for the Delaware River Basin Restoration Program. Throughout her tenure, she has maintained a high profile within the Democratic Party, notably serving as a national campaign co-chair for Joe Biden during the 2020 presidential election.
