Veterans Mental Health and Addiction Therapy Quality of Care Act
Summary
This bill would direct the Department of Veterans Affairs to hire an independent, objective organization to conduct a comprehensive study examining differences in the quality of mental health and addiction therapy services. The study would compare care provided by the VA against care provided by non-VA providers across various treatment approaches and modalities. The findings would be required to be published publicly, allowing veterans, policymakers, and the public to see how VA mental health and addiction services compare to private sector alternatives.
If enacted, this legislation could provide valuable information about the effectiveness and quality of VA mental health and addiction treatment programs. Veterans and their families could use these findings to make informed decisions about their care options, while Congress and VA leadership could use the results to identify areas for improvement. The bill is currently under consideration in the House Subcommittee on Health and has not yet been voted on by the full chamber.
