Health Care Affordability Act of 2025

The Health Care Affordability Act of 2025 would make permanent certain temporary changes to the premium tax credit for health insurance. Currently, these expansions are set to expire after 2025. The bill would eliminate the income cap that limits eligibility for the credit, allowing higher-income households to qualify. It would also lock in lower percentages used to calculate the credit amount and prevent those percentages from increasing with inflation in future years.

If enacted, this legislation could help make health insurance more affordable for millions of Americans by expanding who qualifies for tax credits and increasing the amount of assistance available. Currently eligible taxpayers would continue receiving the same level of support indefinitely rather than seeing benefits reduced or eliminated when temporary provisions expire. The bill is currently under consideration by the House Committee on Ways and Means and has not yet been voted on by the full chamber.
