AI–WISE Act
Summary
The AI-WISE Act would direct the Small Business Administration to develop and maintain educational materials about artificial intelligence specifically designed for small business owners and entrepreneurs. These resources would be hosted on an existing SBA learning platform and would cover how AI models function, how to identify and evaluate AI tools, and how to manage the risks associated with using artificial intelligence in business operations.
To ensure the educational materials are relevant and comprehensive, the bill would establish an advisory working group that would provide guidance to the SBA about what information should be included in the resources and modules. This group would help ensure that the materials address the real-world concerns and needs of small business operators.
The bill has already passed the House of Representatives and is currently under review by the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship. If enacted, this legislation would provide small business owners with free, government-backed educational tools to help them understand and safely implement artificial intelligence technologies in their operations, potentially helping them compete more effectively in an increasingly technology-driven economy.
