GAAME Act of 2026
Summary
The GAAME Act of 2026 would expand how schools can use federal funding designated for low-income students. Currently, Title I funds support instructional needs in core academic areas, but this bill would explicitly permit schools to use these funds for arts and music education programs.
Under this proposal, schools with school-wide programs could include arts and music education in their comprehensive plans, provided the instruction is sequential, standards-based, and taught by certified educators. Schools with targeted assistance programs could use Title I funds to support arts and music initiatives that address student academic needs, including funding for certified teachers, professional development, instruments, supplies, and related expenses.
If enacted, this bill would give schools greater flexibility to incorporate arts and music into their curricula for disadvantaged students, potentially expanding access to these educational programs in schools serving low-income communities. However, the bill is currently in the early stages of the legislative process and has not yet advanced to committee consideration.
