FLASH Act

The FLASH Act would authorize construction of at least 584 miles of navigable roads on federal lands along the southern border to enhance border security and Customs and Border Protection access. The bill would also allow border states to place temporary barriers on federal public lands and require federal land managers to develop strategies to address trash accumulation and environmental degradation along the border. Additionally, the bill would establish a Southern Border Fuels Management Initiative to conduct vegetation management activities to reduce wildfire risk and improve border patrol visibility. The bill would also prohibit the use of federal funds to provide housing to certain individuals on lands managed by the National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, and U.S. Forest Service. If enacted, these provisions would reshape how federal lands along the southern border are managed and accessed, with potential impacts on environmental resources, wildlife habitat, and visitor experiences at national parks and other protected areas.
